Professor Taylor
joined the department in September 2002. He has taught courses in general and
analytical chemistry. In his research, he is currently employing microarray
techniques for the combinatorial development of materials for use as detectors
in microanalytical systems and as sensors for incorporation into electronic nose
technology. Students performing research in Professor Taylor’s group can expect
to use a wide variety of analytical instrumentation.
After receiving his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Minnesota,
Professor Taylor was a postdoctoral associate at the National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST). He has also taught courses in analytical
chemistry at the University of Minnesota and at Macalester College, his
undergraduate alma mater.
When not in the classroom or laboratory, Professor Taylor combines his interests
in chemistry and cooking by trying out new recipes in the kitchen. He is well
known for his love of spicy food, and his own chili recipe is feared by many.
